Home-made chicken broth: Good for digestion and bone health

In the book I mentioned in the previous post, Dr. Lani's Bone Health Guide, there is an excellent chapter on digestion and its effects on bone health.  Did you know that many people over 40 have too little stomach acid and that it can cause heartburn, and other signs of poor digestion?  Sometimes taking a supplement of hydrochloric acid with meals can be a good remedy, or even drinking lemon water with your meals.  Without enough stomach acid it's hard to digest and absorb calcium. 

Sometimes digestion needs help from added enzymes either from supplements or plenty of fresh, raw fruits and vegetables.  Probiotics, found in kefir, yogurt, sauerkraut and other fermented foods can also help digestion.

Even old fashioned home-made chicken broth can help digestion by holding in the digestive fluids through the gelatin that is naturally in the broth. And broth is good for bone health because it has minerals including calcium and magnesium in a form that is easily absorbed. Read more about bone broth here.
