![]() As I mentioned in a previous post, I've been adding collagen powder (beef gelatin) to my breakfast smoothie. After reading a few articles about the effects of collagen on bone density and arthritis, I'm even more hopeful that it will make a difference. However, I plan to switch from the powdered gelatin to the collagen hydrolysate which does not congeal and can be added directly to cold liquids, such as smoothies. I realized that the gelatin I had been using needed to be soaked in cold liquid and then added to hot liquid in order to be absorbed. LIve and learn! Another excellent form of collagen is homemade bone broth. Simply roast a chicken, save the bones and simmer for a day in a crock pot with water, seasoning and vegetables, and a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar (for better absorption). When the broth is chilled it will congeal like Jello. You can read more about the benefits of collagen in the form of bone broth or powdered collagen hydrolysate in an article here. Now that fall is almost here, happy soup making! |
